2024 Olympic Games: all disciplines!

Football arrived very early on the Olympic program, from the Paris Games in 1900. It has not left it since. Women's football made its debut on the Olympic program at the Atlanta Games in 1996.

Table tennis, also called ping-pong, is a racket sport pitting two or four players around a table. Table tennis is a leisure activity, but it has also been an Olympic sport since 1988.

The trampoline was invented in 1934 by George Nissen. The trampoline involves two individual competitions (one for women and one for men), during which the athletes bounce more than eight meters high on a canvas, to perform sequences of figures.

Triathlon is a sporting discipline made up of three endurance events linked in the following order: swimming, cycling and running. Its modern form appeared in the United States in 1974 then triathlon became an Olympic discipline in the year 2000 at the Sydney Games.

Volleyball was born at the same university as basketball, in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1895. It was in Tokyo, during the 1964 Games, that volleyball arrived on the Olympic program.

Water polo is an aquatic team sport pitting two teams of seven players against each other. A variation of water polo was practiced in ancient Rome, in thermal baths. The first rules were issued in 1870 by the London Swimming Club.

Archery is a sport of precision and concentration in which competitors attempt to shoot their arrows into the center of a target with their bow. It appeared very early on the Olympic program, since in 1900 a competition was organized during the Paris Games.

Canoeing sport competitions began in the mid-19th century. The Royal Canoe Club of London, established in 1866, was the first organization to take an interest in the development of this sport. Slalom made its appearance at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich.

Track cycling is a sporting practice bringing together several events and taking place on a velodrome. It is always practiced on fixed gear bikes, that is to say that, unlike a freewheel bike, the user is obliged to pedal constantly until the bike comes to a complete stop.

Golf is a precision sport played outdoors, which involves hitting a ball into a hole using clubs. The aim of the game is to make as few moves as possible on a defined course. Precision, endurance, technicality, concentration are essential qualities for this activity.

In canoe sprint, competitors compete on a flat water course over distances ranging from 200 to 1000 meters. The race is done in a line over eight lanes, the objective being to cross the line first.

Hockey is a sport in which two teams play against each other by attempting to maneuver a ball or puck (puck) into the opponent's goal using a stick. Hockey appeared for the first time at the Games in 1908, in London.

The modern pentathlon is a sporting event made up of five disciplines, hence the name pentathlon. These events are fencing, swimming, horse riding, pistol shooting and running. The pentathlon has always been part of the Olympic program since 1912.

Rugby union is an Olympic event contested four times in the first seven editions of the modern Olympic Games. It made its appearance at the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Diving is a related discipline of swimming, which became popular in Sweden and Germany in the 19th century. The discipline quickly entered the Olympic program, starting in 1904, at the Saint Louis Games.

Equestrian sport is the set of sporting equestrian disciplines which have in common the use of the athletic and aesthetic abilities of the horse. Equestrian sports were present for the first time at the 1900 Olympic Games.

Shooting is a historic Olympic sport, present since the first modern Olympic Games in 1896 in Athens. The Paris 2024 shooting events will be organized from July 27 to August 5 at the Châteauroux National Shooting Center.

Rhythmic gymnastics (GR) is a sporting discipline with an artistic component close to classical dance and gymnastics, mainly female, using several skill apparatus: rope, ribbon, hoop, ball, clubs.
