In principle, golf is a simple game, and quite effectively described by the first of its rules: "Golf consists of playing a ball with a club from the teeing area to the hole by hitting it with one or several successive blows in accordance with the rules. This involves counting the number of shots that a player must make to reach the end of the 18-hole course; the route must be completed four times in four days. The player who, at the end of these four rounds, has the fewest strokes played wins the tournament.
