Shooting
There are three different types of shooting event at the Olympic Games: rifle, pistol and shotgun. The rifle and pistol events take place on shooting ranges, where athletes must hit targets at distances of 10, 25 and 50 metres. There are also three shooting positions: kneeling, where the athlete kneels and rests his elbow on his knee, prone and standing. Some events include all these positions.
To hit the targets, the athletes use relaxation methods that allow them to reduce their heart rate, to achieve the greatest accuracy and get as close as possible to the centre of the target, called the fly. Rifle events differ in principle, as they take place outdoors. Shooters have to hit targets projected into the air from varying angles and directions. Shooting is extremely demanding on the athletes' concentration, decision-making and reflexes.
